Fareground is seeking new board members.

Do you have an interest in food justice in your community? Are you looking for a unique leadership opportunity? If so, please consider joining Fareground's Board of Directors!

Dear Friend,

I would like to personally invite you to join Fareground's Board of Directors. We hope you will consider joining us to fulfill our mission of neighbors helping neighbors to build a strong food safety-net in the Hudson Valley.

For over 13 years, our volunteer board has been the strategic heart of Fareground, ensuring that we respond to changes in our community so our neighbors have ample food on their tables.

We have 3 seats to fill on our Board of Directors. We are looking for new members who share our organization’s values and who can help us continue to grow Fareground’s impact in our community. Our values:

High-quality, nourishing food is a human right. We do not place restrictions, requirements, or barriers between people and food. As much as possible, Fareground food is local, organic, and reflects what we and our neighbors want to eat.

Solidarity, not charity. We feed our neighbors through mutual aid, collaboration, and partnerships.

Compassion and community care. We respect our neighbors’ dignity and treat each other with kindness and respect.

Inclusivity and equity. We honor our community and all of its members, regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, ability, religious beliefs, political beliefs, education levels, or socioeconomic class.

Challenging systems of oppression. We recognize that true inclusivity and caring means recognizing, interrupting, and dismantling injustice built into our institutions and culture. We are actively feminist and anti-racist. We continuously examine privilege and disparities and disrupt these whenever possible.

Environmental sustainability, local agriculture, and waste prevention. We maintain the utmost respect for our environment, and do things as ecologically soundly as possible. We recycle, compost, and avoid disposables to prevent waste. We work with local farms and organizations to secure donations or affordable food.

If you are interested in helping us continue to grow Fareground into a strong food-access organization that celebrates food and community in the Hudson Valley, then we are looking for you!

Please use this link  to express why you are interested in joining the Board and to share your relevant experience. We will respond to all inquiries.

Thank you for considering joining the Fareground Board of Directors!

All my best,

Kara Marie Dean-Assael
